Gardens, plants, design and craft are the recurring themes of this site. They reflect the ways I observe and explore the world and ultimately express my creativity.

Whether I’m digging in the dirt, folding paper, designing gardens or drawing patterns, I’m drawn to the process of noticing, making and discovering.

I have loved plants and gardens for as long as I can remember. I’m interested in how plants grow and change, and in how they can be used to shape a place. When I walk through a garden, I notice the plants, but also the spaces between them—edges, transitions, texture, volume, color and the relationships between the elements. I like seeing how these come together to create a place and how that makes people feel.

I appreciate the way patterns and geometry bring thoughts to life in a way that is more precise and lasting. I like the repetition, rhythm, order and symmetry, and I find myself noticing patterns in nature, architecture, gardens and everyday surroundings. Modular origami is a 3D version of these principles, tactile and real. I used to be hesitant to show people or display my projects, but seeing their joy in the shapes and colors makes the countless hours invested time well spent.

Making things is important to me. Drawing, designing, gardening, folding paper, needlepoint and working with my hands all give me a way to explore an idea and turn it into something tangible.

Travel and photography are another way I explore and fuel my curiosity. I tend to photograph places, plants, architecture, patterns and details rather than people. There is so much beauty in the world, often right in front of us. One of my greatest pleasures is stopping to notice it. (And the 20,000+ photos in my library prove it!)

This site brings together a few of the things that have always helped me express myself and stay grounded in a chaotic world. They might take different forms, but they are connected by a curiosity about the world, a love of making and a desire to look closely.
